World Snow Day - 22 January 2012 (04/01/2012)

As part of world celebrations, the Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) is working with snowsports bodies across the globe to raise the profile of all things snow, on the 22 January 2012.

This annual festival is all about encouraging children and their families to enjoy, explore and experience snow and introduce newcomers to the opportunities available in their own country, for outdoor activities on snow.

Here at Glenshee we are planning various events and activities (snow permitting) which are as follows:

  • Snowsport Scotland dual slalom all discipline fun race for children up to and including juniors. Free entry for club members, £4 for non-club members to cover insurance. Entry through Snowsport Scotland or on the day. Venue will either be Carn Aosda, Butchart's or Claybokie. Registrations between 9am and 10am,  races start at 11am, practise course available.

  • Aberdeen Snowsport Club snow tubing sessions. Venue to be decided on the day, £2 per head.

  • Glenshee snow sculpture/man competition. Free entry and medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd to be presented.

  • Aberdeen Snowsport Club Big Air Bag sessions. Venue likely to be near Claybokie, £5 for 5 jumps.

  • Ski and board testing/demos from K2, Salomon, Scott, Rossignol, Atomic. Venue is Cairnwell Mountain Cafe, from 10am.

  • Ski and Board taster sessions; £5 per hour including equipment and use of beginners lifts from 10 am. Sponsored by Freshtracks, Gulabin and Cally Gordon's Snowsport Schools.

  • Ski Patrol/BASP demo and safety demos including- FIS code of conduct, sledging and accident procedure, avalanche transceiver and probing. Venue likely to be around Claybokie.

  • Sled dog demos.
